Mission Statement

To facilitate the negotiation of a Treaty collectively supported by the Nation that maintains aboriginal rights and title for present and future generations.

Guiding Principles

  • As the Ktunaxa Kinbasket Treaty Council continues to proceed through the Treaty process, the following principles are used to guide the process:
  • The Ktunaxa Nation will negotiate a Treaty with Canada and BC that will not result in either a loss or erosion of existing aboriginal rights.
  • The entire Treaty process must be based on cultural and environmental sustainability, adheres to the values and conforms to the cultural practices of the Ktunaxa Nation.
  • The process will be driven by the citizenship and work will be conducted at the community level whenever possible.
  • We as citizens must acknowledge our roles and responsibilities by taking the initiative to fully educate ourselves about the process so that we can be full participants.
  • We will accept responsibilities from Treaty settlement when we determine that we are ready for them.
  • We will actively work to build relationships with our neighbours.
