Lands Sector Vision Statement
We the Ktunaxa envision ourselves working together as one Nation to responsibly care for the lands and resources within our Territory. Our stewardship of the lands and resources will be based on our sacred covenant with the Creator and our traditional values of:
  1. Ensuring land, air and water will be clean and healthy;
  2. Ensuring access to, and protection of, traditional foods and medicines;
  3. Balancing the economic use of land with cultural and spiritual values;
  4. Ensuring that long-term sustainability and ecological integrity take precedence; and,
  5. Following natural law; taking only what you need.

Stewardship Principles
  1. Contribute to the betterment of future generations;

  3. Follow natural law of taking only what is needed;
  4. Ensure that long-term sustainability and ecological integrity take precedence;
  5. Ensure access to, and protection of, traditional foods, medicines, resources, and spiritual sites;
  6. Maintain, protect, manage and restore healthy and diverse ecosystems; and,
  7. Ensure land, air, and water are and will be clean and healthy.

Operating Principles
  1. Make land and natural resource use and management decisions based on the stated economic, cultural and ecological values of the Ktunaxa Nation.
  2. Use the precautionary principle of maintaining ecological integrity when competing values and interests cannot be reconciled.
  3. Ensure Nation rights, interests and aspirations are first and foremost.1
  4. Foster ongoing learning, continuous improvement and excellent service.
  5. Ensure transparency and accountability is present in all activities.
  6. Continuously improve its operations through a program of consistent monitoring and evaluation.
  7. Respectfully consider the input of all citizens.
  8. Ensure quality lands and resources information is accessible to the Ktunaxa Nation.
  9. Promote and encourage Ktunaxa citizen participation in lands and resources stewardship.
  10. Effectively communicate KLRA activities with the citizens, communities and other entities within the Ktunaxa Nation.
  11. Effectively coordinate activities with relevant entities within the Ktunaxa Nation.
  12. Operate in a professional manner to serve all of its clients.
  13. Develop and maintain healthy relationships with external agencies and organizations based on mutual understanding and respect.
