Ktunaxa Nation Treaty Negotiations

Why Does the Ktunaxa Nation Want a Treaty?

Ktunaxa people want a new relationship with the governments of Canada and British Columbia, now and for future generations.

We are negotiating a treaty with Canada and B.C. based on the fact that we have occupied our traditional lands for thousands of years and have never sold or relinquished title to our traditional lands to any person or any government.

We seek a treaty that clearly sets out the rights, obligations and authorities of the Ktunaxa Nation within our Traditional Territory in relation to other governments and enhances our opportunities for self-government, economic development, and cultural and social well-being.
