What is being Negotiated?
A treaty is being negotiated between
the Ktunaxa Nation, Canada and B.C. on a government to government
basis.
The Ktunaxa Nation is approaching treaty
negotiations based on our view of the Four Pillars of a
Nation: Lands & Resources, Economic, Culture & Language,
and Governance.
Based on the Four Pillars of a Nation,
here are examples of some of the issues being negotiated
at the treaty table by the Ktunaxa Nation, Canada and B.C.:
Lands and
Resources
This area will define all aspects of the Ktunaxa
relationship to land within the Ktunaxa Traditional Territory.

Recognition of Ktunaxa aboriginal rights
and title. |

Ktunaxa Nation land base (Ktunaxa government lands). |

Ktunaxa government jurisdiction on our lands (law-making). |

Ktunaxa ownership and management of resources on our

Access granted to the three governments on each others’

within the Ktunaxa Traditional Territory). |
Economic
This area will define the money transfers and
future economic relationships between the Ktunaxa Nation
and the governments of B.C. and Canada.
