Treaty Council Mission Statement

To facilitate the negotiation of a Treaty collectively supported by the Nation that maintains aboriginal rights and title for present and future generations.

Guiding Principles

As the Ktunaxa Kinbasket Treaty Council continues to proceed through the Treaty process, the following principles are used to guide the process:

The Ktunaxa Nation will negotiate a Treaty with Canada and BC that will not result in either a loss or erosion of existing aboriginal rights.

The entire Treaty process must be based on cultural and environmental sustainability, adheres to the values and conforms to the cultural practices of the Ktunaxa Nation.

The process will be driven by the citizenship and work will be conducted at the community level whenever possible.

We as citizens must acknowledge our roles and responsibilities by taking the initiative to fully educate ourselves about the process so that we can be full participants.

We will accept responsibilities from Treaty settlement when we determine that we are ready for them.

We will actively work to build relationships with our neighbours.
