Eligibility & Enrolment

The Ktunaxa Nation has been in treaty negotiations with the province of British Columbia and the government of Canada since 1993. The three parties are currently in stage 4 (Agreement-In-Principle) of a 6 stage process. Once stage 4 is complete, stage 5 (Final Agreement) needs to be ratified by the three parties. British Columbia’s Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) and Canada’s Member of Parliament will vote on whether to accept the AIP. In order for Ktunaxa Nation to accept the AIP, Ktunaxa citizens will be called upon to vote. The criteria that will determine a person’s eligibility to vote are being negotiated. Basically, the Ktunaxa Nation deems anyone who has direct Ktunaxa Nation ancestry or anyone who is a direct descendant of the Shuswap Band, to be eligible to vote. There may be other criteria as well, but these are yet to be confirmed through negotiations. If you have any questions or concerns, we would like to hear from you.
