POSITION SUMMARY

The Employment Skills Support Worker provides support to multi-barriered clients by transitioning them into employment, education and training.    This position encourages and supports clients by treating them with respect and dignity and requires the Employment Skills Support Worker to be a good role model with an excellent work ethic.  It supports the process of preparing for and obtaining meaningful, sustainable employment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Provide individual client counselling, job coaching and mentoring to multi-barriered clients in obtaining and maintaining employment and training.
  • Advise/discuss client’s interests and abilities and direct him/her to the best available opportunity for employment or training.
  • Build relationships client-by-client in order to build an environment of trust in which the individual can feel safe and confident enough to take the risks needed to achieve their employment and training goals.
  • Seek out work placements for clients based on individual interests and abilities.
  • Assist in the coordination of meetings and events from one-on-one sessions, to job creation events and job fairs with a view to impacting the greatest number of individuals in the most effective way.
  • Ensure all client and project information are properly recorded including file management and database entry to guarantee a constant, accurate information flow with other counsellors.
  • Support clients in meetings as requested/required, allowing the client to feel more confident and comfortable in a “formal”, unfamiliar venue.                                                                             

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Preferred – Post Secondary Diploma in Human Service or related Field;
  • Required – Grade 12 diploma plus related experience;
  • Interviewing, coaching, mentoring experience;
  • Knowledge of government programs and organizations.
  • Knowledge of the Ktunaxa Nation and culture as well as experience working in a First Nations environment;
  • Strong interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Strong written and oral communication abilities;
  • Ability to handle confrontation and diffuse stressful situations;
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle.
