stewardship technician
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Cultural Resources Stewardship Technician is engaged in the governance, and stewardship of the natural integrity and culturally significant aspects within the Ktunaxa Traditional Territory. The incumbent functions as a knowledgeable resource/advisor to the Lands and Resources Agency on matters pertaining to the impact of development activity in the territory on archaeological and traditional use sites. Protecting the Ktunaxa cultural image by monitoring archaeological research findings and reports for accuracy and fostering a land/cultural stewardship approach is another function of this role. The Cultural Resources Stewardship Technician must be able to understand and work with multi-disciplinary teams and proactively strive for a broader ecosystem/stewardship approach to governance.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Make recommendations, develops and negotiates site protection plans and resource protection measures with government agencies and developers to minimize impacts on Ktunaxa cultural and archaeological resources.
- Support the information and analysis needs of the Ktunaxa Lands and Resources Agency by providing archaeological information and interpreting traditional use information that is relevant to specific projects.
- Contribute to the development of policy and standards for Ktunaxa Nation regarding the stewardship of cultural heritage and archaeological resources.
- Develop education and outreach material regarding cultural heritage resources.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 2 year Diploma in Archaeology and/or Anthropology/Natural Resources discipline, degree (Bachelor of Science) or commensurate experience.
- Training in Computer Applications: word processing; databases; mapping (ARC 9.2)
